Catching up on Greendaily.com, I came across a new concept of recycling empty, used gift cards. Gift cards are great, they are hassle free, and don’t require much thought. After you spend them, then what? Before you throw in tin the trash–use Earthwork’s Retailer Gift Card Return program.
According to Plenty Magazine, the most effective is to apply pressure to our local retail stores to collect used gift cards and send those in. The company already has teamed up with Gap and Starbucks.
The cards get chopped up, melted down, and then used to create new cards. This process saves about 80 percent of the energy, it would take a produce a brand new cards. Reminder: Keep your used gift cards out of the landfill, they contain polyvinyl chloride, a known carcinogen.
Give the gift of Green cards and always remember to recycle.
