October 22nd, 2008 — google, saving money

Yes, we live in California. Yes, the economy stinks. And yes, we can always find ways to save money. So before you start lighting up those pumpkins and putting up orange lights, check out Google’s energy calculator and see how much money you can save this Halloween and the upcoming holidays seasons.
You can always save money by not doing anything and live in the dark. Yeah, that’s the spirit.

Yahoo firing 1,500 workers; 3Q profit falls 64 pct (AP).
I’m surprised Yahoo! even let that be on their front page news. I guess it’s “real” news, but I wouldn’t broadcast this on my front page!
According to Yahoo!
SAN FRANCISCO - Yahoo Inc. will fire at least 1,500 workers to cope with a crumbling economy that dented its third-quarter profit and turned up the heat on the Internet company’s management as investors stew over a missed opportunity to sell to Microsoft Corp. for $47.5 billion.
I bet they fired the person that published this post!
Isn’t that ironic? We should change a verse in that Alanis Morissette song: “It’s like Yahoo! not selling-itself-to-Microsoft-for-47.5billion…”

In one sentence, American Airlines is suing Yahoo for unlawfully allowing other companies to use the words “American Airlines” to trigger paid search ads. Earlier, American Airlines also sued Google for something very similar.
Perhaps this is how American Airlines is beating the economy.
Here are the details, according to MediaPost:

Whenever I have to travel on the freeway to go somewhere, the first thing I do is to jump on Google Maps on my computer or my iPhone to check the traffic and directions. I think Google Maps is the best, but
if you’re not entirely happy with them, a couple guys at MIT developed a new tool called CarTel.

October 2nd, 2008 — News, Wireless Phones and Plans, google, saving money
I’m anticipating the release of the Google Android, a new phone offered only by T-Mobile on October 22, 2008. With this new phone, there will be new applications, and two of these new applications will help shoppers be more savvy: ShopSavvy and CompareEverywhere. Both will help shoppers find bargains by allowing them to compare prices across the Web and in their local areas.
Currently, there are similar services available: Slifter and Frucall. These services allow people to “comparison shop from mobile phones.” Scanbuy is working to add special bar codes that can “be read by mobile-phone software to send people from physical entities, such as pages of a magazine, to digital content,” according to Adage.com.
However, none of those products have UPC readers. In fact, most of the phones can’t see the UPC symbols because the cameras aren’t sophisticated enough to focus on them properly.
This is where the G1 is different. The camera is equipped with technology called “variable focal length” which means it can adjust its focus to clearly read a UPC without taking a picture of it. The ShopSavvy application ties into that piece of hardware, in addition to location-based technology, to offer the best price across the Web as well as in the vicinity. It can also provide user reviews from across the Web.
We’ll see how people adjust to the new technology. I know that I’m excited!

As you know, I’m predicting that Google is going to take over the world. First with Google, then Gmail, and now the Google Android phone. It’s so Google, they don’t even call it a phone. It’s called the Android. What is an Android you ask?
According to Wikipedia, Android is defined as:
A robot designed to resemble a human, usually both in appearance and behavior.
